Mr Macaroni slams critic for attacking him over Sanwo-Olu snub

Comedian and activist, Mr Macaroni has hit back at an X user who criticized him for allegedly ignoring Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at a public event

The controversy began when one of the governor’s aides shared a tweet about Sanwo-Olu’s presence at the screening of Makemation Is Coming, Africa’s first Tech/AI-themed feature film, set for release on April 18, 2025.

A social media user then quoted the tweet, stating, “Someone saw the Governor and he thought publicly ignoring the Governor was a good idea to publicly embarrass him.”

Reacting, Mr Macaroni harshly replied in Yoruba: “O ni jere! Olofo! Ko ni ragba fun e! 

Eleda mi a ba mi fi iya je e!!! 

O le ma je nisiyin, igba kugba ti yo je, Eleda mi a fi iya je e!!!

The reason for this beautiful prayers I have sent to you is between us. 

I’ll leave it at that.”

In a series of follow-up tweets, he stood by his decision, emphasizing that he has no interest in associating with the governor.

“No part of me wishes to fraternize with Governor Sanwo-Olu. I don’t have anything against anyone who associates with him. So why won’t you people leave me alone? I dey my own since all these days!! Na una start am oooo!” he wrote.

He also doubled down on his stance, saying he would continue to ignore Sanwo-Olu in the future.

“Since you people won’t stop attacking me because I didn’t greet Governor Sanwo-Olu, next time I see him, I still won’t greet him. And this time, even if he calls me, I won’t answer. You people will cry today, tomorrow, and forever!”

The skit maker further criticized those defending politicians, blaming them for Nigeria’s current struggles.

“The people are suffering! The price of everything is up. Instead of you people to hold your leaders accountable, you are busy kissing their bumbum. E ni ku re!!!”

He accused some social media users of hypocrisy, stating that many criticize politicians in public but secretly seek favors from them.

“Some of you on here criticize politicians only because you want to be seen by them and called to scrape leftovers at the table. Some people called out their state governors every day then went behind closed doors to collect envelopes to become praise singers.”

Concluding his statement, Mr Macaroni reaffirmed his commitment to his beliefs, saying he would not compromise his values despite constant attacks.

“I am no saint. I am nobody’s hero. I am far from perfect. I do what I do only because I strongly believe in it. Do I get tired of the constant attacks on my person? Yes! But please do not think for a second that I will betray my conscience because I want you to stop attacking me.”
