Yoweri Museveni has been sworn in for a seventh presidential term in Uganda following his victory in the January 2026 elections

The inauguration took place on May 12, 2026, at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala, where he officially took the oath of office for another five-year mandate.

According to official results, Museveni secured 71.65% of the vote, defeating his closest rival, Bobi Wine, who polled 24.72%.

The 81-year-old leader’s new term extends his decades-long stay in power, making him one of Africa’s longest-serving heads of state.

Museveni, born in 1944 in Mbarara District, has been in office since 1986 after first coming to power as a rebel leader.
