Jaywon calls out billboard

Jaywon has called out Billboard saying his 2012 hit song “This Year” has more impact than some tracks they recently ranked

He said the song has been a template for both gospel and Afrobeats artists, who have copied its vibe over the years

Jaywon made the statement while reacting to Billboard’s Top 50 Best Afrobeats Songs of All-Time list, which excluded his song.

He argued that “This Year” had more cultural impact and viral moments than some of the tracks included on the list.

He criticized Billboard for overlooking the song’s significance, asserting that it has had a lasting impact on Nigerian music.

Jaywon wrote, “‘This Year’ by Jaywon had more viral moments and cultural impact than some tracks Billboard decided to rank.”

“Trending since 2012 and still going strong. Tell me, who else has pulled that off? ‍♂️ Hate is inevitable. Year after year, both gospel and Afrobeats acts copy the same vibe, yet we remain unshaken. Cry harder, I said it before, and I’ll say it again…. No song on that list has more cultural impact than #Thisyear by Jaywon!!”
