Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has dismissed the resurfacing of a video in which his daughter, Jane Eddidiong Ufot, accused him of contributing to her mother’s death, calling it a politically motivated attack aimed at damaging his reputation
The governor responded after the video—originally recorded in 2024 following the death of his wife, Patience Eno—began making rounds again just as he marked his second anniversary in office. He described the timing as suspicious and accused his detractors of exploiting a deeply personal tragedy for political gain.
“Jane is right here with her husband. We have a united family,” Eno said. “The children were grieving. Losing their mother was traumatic. I’m begging the public—please stop revisiting painful memories. I’ve already lost my wife. May her perfect soul rest in peace.”
He urged the public to show compassion and allow his family the space to heal, rather than spreading old content that could reignite emotional wounds.
“We’re in a political season, so these things are expected,” Eno continued. “But my family is strong and together. The video was recorded shortly after my wife died. Why is it resurfacing now, when we’re celebrating two years in office? It clearly shows someone is trying to distract and discredit us.”
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to leading Akwa Ibom and called for civility in politics.
“I remain focused on my duty to the people. What I went through, I wouldn’t wish on anyone. If those behind this video want the same for themselves, that’s their choice. But even in politics, families should be off-limits,” he said.
Patience Eno passed away on September 26, 2024, after a brief illness that was not disclosed to the public.
