Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, tendered an emotional and memorable speech at the traditional wedding of his son, Gbolahan Adeleke, and his bride, Damilola Adio, over the weekend in Lagos.
A video of the governor’s remarks circulated on social media, capturing his reflections on fatherhood, love, and family.
In his address, Adeleke shared how he had long talked with his son about marriage, recalling Gbolahan’s playful responses that he was still “testing” potential partners. He revealed that he had observed his son’s relationships over the years and realized they shared the same preferences when it came to choosing a life partner.
“I always knew the ladies he brought home before were not the right fit,” Adeleke said. “But the day he introduced Damilola, I knew immediately that he had found the one.”
The governor expressed gratitude to the bride’s family for welcoming his son and entrusting Damilola to the Adeleke family.
“Adio family, we set a date, and it came to pass. All the calls, the trips to London to visit you and seek your approval—it all led to this moment,” Adeleke said. “My son had told me he was still testing, and I asked him how long he would keep testing. Over the years, I watched him bring women home, and whenever it wasn’t his ‘spec,’ I would tell him. But the moment Damilola walked through the door, I hugged him and knew it was right.”
He concluded by celebrating the union and promising to care for Damilola. “Today is the day the Lord has made, and we rejoice. Thank you for allowing us to marry your daughter. We will take care of her, just as she deserves,” Adeleke said.
