Mysterious fish kills 4 in Taraba

Four people have been reported d8ad, while two others are currently receiving treatment after consuming a poisonous fish in Kashimbila, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, disclosed this on Tuesday in a post on his X handle.

Makama stated that intelligence sources informed him the incident occurred after six Fulani herders: Abdul Juli, Sule Abubakar, Adamu Mato, Saidu Payo, Yusuf Musa, and Ibrahim Haruna, went on a fishing expedition at a nearby river on February 22.

The security expert said it was gathered that after catching and cooking the fish they caught, they unknowingly consumed a poisonous species, leading to severe illness.

“They were rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Kashimbila, where four of them Juli, Abubakar, Mato, and Payo were confirmed d8ad by the doctor on duty.

“The two survivors, Yusuf Musa and Ibrahim Haruna, are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital,” Makama said.

He further disclosed that the incident was reported to the police by one Haruna Isiaka of Chidawa Village, adding that police have deposited the corpses at the hospital mortuary for autopsy, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
