- Tragedy struck in Coral Springs, Florida, as Nancy Metayer Bowen, the city’s vice mayor and commissioner, was found d.ead in her home on wednesday
Police say her husband, Stephen Bowen, has been taken into custody in connection with her de.ath.
Authorities are investigating the case as a domestic violence incident and have confirmed there are no other suspects.
Nancy Bowen had been preparing to announce her bid for Congress. According to sources, she was planning to enter the Democratic primary for the seat currently held by Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who recently faced an indictment over allegedly funneling disaster relief funds into her campaign.
Bowen made history when she was first elected commissioner in 2020 as Coral Springs’ first Black and Haitian American woman in the role.
She won reelection in 2024, and in November 2025, she began her second term as vice mayor. Florida Representative Jared Moskowitz remembered her as a rising political figure, noting she was just about to make her congressional run official.
Her d.eath has shocked the community and leaves many mourning the loss of a trailblazing leader and public servant.
