Nasty C, a famous South African rapper, has revealed why he quit drinking alcohol
In an interview with Madam Joyce,he said that he was struggling with alcohol addiction, drinking every night, in the studio, at restaurants, and during performances.
Nasty C said his tolerance for alcohol was very high, but he decided to stop because he didn’t want to end up with a “phuza face” – a term in South Africa for looking 10 years older than your actual age due to excessive drinking.
He explained he was drinking everything from vodka to whisky, cognac, tequila, and rum.
He stopped drinking because he didn’t want to age quickly because of heavy alcohol consumption.
Nasty C said: ” “I was addicted to alcohol. I was drinking every night. Everytime I go to the studio, restaurant, I drink. Everytime I perform, I drink.
“Also, my tolerance when it comes to alcohol was very high, too. When I drink alcohol with friends, I would be the last one to be intoxicated. And I feel it’s a bad thing because you never know when something is going wrong until it’s too late. I got off the vodka a little bit but I was drinking everything else. Whisky, cognac, tequila, rum – I was drinking everything.
“I gave up alcohol because I don’t want to get a ‘phuza face.’ There’s a thing in South Africa we call a ‘phuza face’ – when you age really quickly because you drink a lot of alcohol, when you start looking 10 years older than you actually are.”
