The Nigerian Senate has declared that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan remains suspended and was rightly barred from entering the chamber

Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu defended the move, describing her attempt to resume legislative duties as a publicity stunt. He insisted that the Senate had not received any formal directive reversing her suspension, and that security officials were simply carrying out orders.

Reacting to claims of a court ruling in her favor, legal experts clarified that the judgment did not mandate her immediate reinstatement. One lawyer explained, “The court only asked the Senate to review its rules. It never ordered her recall.”

Akpoti-Uduaghan had arrived at the National Assembly earlier this week, citing a court judgment as justification for resuming plenary. However, without a formal Senate resolution acknowledging the ruling, her suspension stands.

For now, the Senate maintains that she remains officially suspended.
