Nigeria’s national power grid has suffered another collapse, plunging several parts of the country into darkness and disrupting electricity supply to millions of homes and businesses
Findings showed that power generation crashed from over 4,500 megawatts to about 24 megawatts as of 1:30 pm during the incident.

All 23 power generation plants linked to the national grid reportedly lost output, leading to zero power allocation for the country’s 11 electricity distribution companies.
The cause of the collapse was not immediately known, and officials of the Transmission Company of Nigeria had yet to release a detailed explanation as of the time of this report.
The incident marks the first grid collapse recorded in 2026 and comes just weeks after a similar nationwide outage on December 29, 2025, which also left large parts of the country without electricity.
