The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results for the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, which took place from November 14 to December 14, 2024
During a press conference on Friday at NECO headquarters in Minna, the council’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, announced that 86,067 candidates had registered, with 84,799 sitting for the examination.
He revealed that 57,114 candidates, representing 67.35%, obtained five credits or more, including English Language and Mathematics.
Providing further statistics, Wushishi stated that 83,220 candidates sat for English Language, with 75.62% earning credit passes, while 93.93% of the 83,024 candidates who took Mathematics achieved the same. Additionally, 70,711 candidates (83.39%) secured at least five credits, regardless of English and Mathematics.
On examination malpractice, Wushishi noted a 27.7% decline in reported cases, with 6,160 candidates booked for various infractions, compared to 8,518 in 2023. Seven supervisors from Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi states were recommended for blacklisting due to misconduct, while 14 centres—10 in Ogun and 4 in Oyo—were also sanctioned for widespread malpractice.
Candidates can check their results on the NECO website (www.neco.gov.ng) using their examination registration number.
Prof. Wushishi expressed gratitude to the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, and other stakeholders for their support in ensuring the successful conduct of the examination.
