Anthony Gordon’s second-half penalty secured a point for Newcastle United as they held Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park

City took the lead in the 35th minute through Josko Gvardiol’s smart finish from Jack Grealish’s lay-off.
Despite Mateo Kovacic and Rico Lewis’s impressive display in replacing the injured Rodri, City succumbed to Newcastle’s pressure after the break.
Bruno Guimaraes’s precise pass found Gordon, who was played onside by Kyle Walker. Gordon went down under Ederson’s challenge, earning a penalty. Ederson was booked, and Gordon calmly converted the spot-kick.
City had chances to extend their lead, but Ilkay Gundogan missed a chip after Nick Pope’s errant clearance. Both teams pushed for a winner, with Sean Longstaff and Bernardo Silva coming close.
The draw marks City’s second dropped points in a week, following their perfect start to the season. Newcastle remain with only one win in 34 top-flight meetings against City.
