A section of the newly inaugurated LAMECO Flyover in Osogbo, Osun State, has been damaged less than three weeks after it was opened to motorists following hours of heavy rainfall
The 672-metre bridge, commissioned by Governor Ademola Adeleke on July 1, 2026, developed a depression on part of the roadway after an overnight rainstorm that lasted nearly eight hours between Thursday and Friday.
Cracks and a sunken asphalt surface were observed on the affected section, forcing drivers and commercial motorcyclists to reduce speed before traffic officials restricted movement across the bridge.
The development sparked concerns among residents and commuters, who called on the state government to carry out urgent repairs to prevent further damage and safeguard road users.
The damaged section also disrupted traffic within Osogbo, with many motorists diverting to alternative routes.
Officials of the Osun Amotekun Corps later sealed off the affected area of the flyover, barring both vehicles and pedestrians while engineers assessed the extent of the damage.
