Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, has stirred widespread backlash after ordering the arrest of anyone spotted with dreadlocks in the state capital, Minna

A video currently trending on X (formerly Twitter) shows the governor addressing security agencies at a public event, where he gave a directive targeting individuals with certain hairstyles.
“There will be no tolerance for rascality in Minna. Anybody you find with dreadlocks—arrest him, shave his hair, and fine him,” Bago declared in the clip.
He added, “Nobody should carry any kind of hair again. I’ve given the security agencies a marching order. Anybody found with a weapon should be treated as an armed robber.”
Bago also issued a strong warning to parents, urging them to rein in their children. “Parents, warn your children, warn your wards. From this moment, it’s 100% fire for fire,” he said.
The governor’s comments have sparked intense criticism online, with many users calling the directive discriminatory and an infringement on personal freedom.
