Nigeria’s hopes of securing a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup took a hit as the Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on March 25, 2025
Striker Victor Osimhen put Nigeria ahead in the 74th minute with a well-placed header, raising hopes of a crucial victory. However, Zimbabwe found an equalizer late in the match, frustrating the Super Eagles and denying them all three points.
The result leaves Nigeria in fourth place in Group C, making their qualification path more challenging. It comes just days after a promising 2-0 victory over Rwanda on March 21, where Osimhen scored both goals, giving the team a strong start under interim coach Éric Sékou Chelle.
With more games left to play, the Super Eagles must secure victories in their remaining fixtures while hoping for favorable results elsewhere to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
