Ashton Mutuwa, a Nigerian wrestler based in the United States, shared that the music of Nigerian artist Burna Boy inspires him during tough times.
Mutuwa revealed this during an interview with NAN on Tuesday in Paris, France.
“Everybody just goes crazy when Burna Boy comes on. I love his music. Whenever I need a big lift or motivation during a workout, I listen to him. He is my favorite musician,” Mutuwa said.
He also praised Daniel Igali, the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), and his coach, Victor Okorie, for their ability and experience to positively influence athletes.
Mutuwa has visited Nigeria twice: first in January for the national trials and again in March for a training camp. His favorite dishes are jollof rice and Egusi soup, which he enjoys with various accompaniments.
Mutuwa’s motivation to represent Nigeria came from his close friend, a Serbian who achieved great success by winning medals and traveling extensively, thus bringing pride to his nation and family.
“He was a world champion in 2023 for Serbia, representing his country and making his family proud. I thought it was a good idea to do it for myself,” Mutuwa said.
Mutuwa is Nigeria’s sole male wrestler at the Olympics and will compete in his first match on Thursday, August 9.
