Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has addressed criticism over bringing his two sons, Jordan and Joaquin, along on an official trip to the United Arab Emirates
The Minister attended the 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayor’s Forum in Dubai, where his sons were seen accompanying the Nigerian delegation.

This sparked backlash online, with some Nigerians accusing Wike of misusing public funds and involving his children in government affairs despite their lack of official roles.
Wike, however, defended his actions, insisting he acted within his rights. “What law says that my sons shouldn’t travel? Did they sign any document? It doesn’t have to be a personal trip. They have to know how Nigeria works,” he said, challenging critics to provide evidence that the Federal Capital Territory Administration covered his sons’ expenses.
The former Rivers State governor also dismissed claims that he was grooming his children for politics. He noted that his eldest son studied law but opted for farming, while his second son, who holds a master’s degree in Economics, is pursuing a career in real estate.
Expressing pride in their character, Wike said, “I’m happy I have children who have given me comfort and not problems. I won’t travel with my enemy’s children.”
