Kenneth Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for the Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign in the 2023 elections, has argued that no single candidate can defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election

However, he believes that a coalition could unite to unseat the president.
Okonkwo made these remarks during an appearance on Channels TV on Sunday, April 27. He quoted Nelson Mandela, saying, “It always appears impossible until it happens.” While he could not guarantee an alliance between Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, Okonkwo expressed confidence that a coalition would form as the 2027 election approaches. “Whether it would be between Peter Obi and Atiku, I don’t know. But there would be a coalition, because that would be the only option for the opposition to make an impact.”
When asked if Tinubu could be defeated without a coalition, Okonkwo responded affirmatively, stating, “Outrightly, he would just walk into it.”
He emphasized that no single candidate could defeat Tinubu alone, citing the importance of securing both popular and elite support to win. Drawing a comparison to the 2014 alliance that helped unseat President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, Okonkwo suggested that a similar coalition could be the key to unseating Tinubu in 2027.
