An American woman has advised Nigerians planning to relocate to the US, as well as young men hoping to marry older American women to secure residency, to understand the cost of living before making such decisions.
She explained that life in the country is not as easy as many people think.
She explained that despite living in America, she struggles to meet her daily needs and sometimes sleeps in her car because of how expensive it is to afford accommodation.
In a post, she said:
“Not every American woman is rich. For example, me, I dey suff£r, I sleep inside my car because it’s too expensive over here. Everybody thinks that it is easy in this country, but it’s not. I wish people would quit thinking that every American is rich, but we are not. I burst my nyash everyday for little little pay. Here you pay rent, car instance, taxes they’ll take from your pay. Many other insurances, There are a lot of places better than this country.”
She pointed out that earning money in the US does not automatically mean having a comfortable life, especially with expenses such as rent, car insurance, taxes and other insurance payments taking up a large part of people’s income.
Her experience shows that moving abroad does not automatically guarantee financial stability. While many Nigerians hope to find better opportunities in America, the cost of living can make it difficult to save money and enjoy the kind of life they imagined before relocating.
