The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested 17 individuals and seized multiple vehicles in a coordinated operation against illegal mining activities in Kogi State
The operation, carried out by the NSCDC Mining Marshals, took place in the Odiagbo-Okaba district of Ankpa Local Government Area.
According to a statement signed by the NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, on Wednesday, three trucks and 39 motorcycles, allegedly used for illegal mining, were impounded during the raid.
The crackdown followed increasing complaints from residents over environmental degradation and public health hazards reportedly caused by unauthorised mining in the region.
The NSCDC Mining Marshal initiative, a joint effort between the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and the Ministry of Interior, was established to enforce mining laws, curb illegal operations, and protect the country’s mineral resources.
