Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has lifted the suspension of 81 government officials and directed them to resume their official duties without delay

The announcement was made in a statement released on Monday, August 5, 2025, by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor.
According to the statement, the reinstated officials include Commissioners, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, and Permanent Secretaries who were suspended on July 28, 2025.
“The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has graciously lifted the suspension on 81 government officials,” the statement read. “The Governor directed the Commissioners, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, and Permanent Secretaries who were suspended on the 28th of July, 2025 to resume official duties immediately.”
It will be recalled that the Governor had earlier suspended 86 officials across various departments for failing to attend a key state function. At the time, Dr. Uzor described their absence as a serious breach of duty and disregard for the responsibilities of public office.
The initial suspension affected 25 Commissioners, 14 Senior Special Assistants, 24 Special Assistants, and 23 Permanent Secretaries. It took effect immediately and was to last one month without pay.
The Governor’s latest decision is being viewed as a reconciliatory move aimed at encouraging accountability while offering the officials a chance to recommit to discipline and dedication in public service.
