Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has dismissed allegations of corruption leveled against him, describing them as “fictitious and unsubstantiated.”

Addressing supporters at his residence in GRA, Ikeja, on Saturday, Obasa stated that he was unbothered by his impeachment but criticized the process, claiming it lacked due procedure.
He alleged that his removal was orchestrated during his absence and accused the Lagos State Commissioner of Police of aiding the process. Obasa further claimed that security agents, led by the commissioner, invaded the assembly complex and his homes in Agege and Ikeja, detaining his family with over 200 officers present.
Responding to allegations of misappropriation, including claims that a gate construction cost N16 billion, Obasa mocked the accusation, saying, “Is it the wall of Jericho?”
“I am not afraid of being removed. After all, it is not my father’s chieftaincy title. I am representing my people, and they have returned me six times. If you want to do anything, do it well,” he remarked.
Obasa contrasted his impeachment with past leadership changes in the assembly, referencing former Speaker Jokotola Pelumi and former Deputy Speaker Adefunmilayo Tejuosho, who were removed without police involvement.
The former speaker emphasized the need for credible evidence in accusations, insisting that innocent individuals should not be tarnished.
“The Lagos State House of Assembly is above common standards of excellence,” he said, expressing gratitude to the Governance Advisory Council and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whom he referred to as a brother.
Obasa was impeached on January 13 by more than two-thirds of the 40-member assembly over allegations of misconduct. His deputy, Mojisola Meranda, was immediately elected as the new speaker, making history as the first female to hold the position in the South-West state.
