Odumeje questions Tinubu’s achievements

Popular cleric Odumeje has questioned the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying he is yet to see any major progress under the current administration

Speaking during a recent sermon, the outspoken preacher said he does not understand why some Nigerians praise the president, insisting that only members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) appear to be celebrating his government.

“I don’t know the people celebrating Tinubu. Tell me one thing Tinubu has done since he entered this government,” Odumeje said.

According to him, Nigerians have become too comfortable with poor governance and now applaud leaders who have not delivered on their promises.

“The only thing I know Tinubu has done is to secure APC’s position to remain in charge of Nigeria. That is the only thing,” he said.

Odumeje stated that the people hailing the president are mainly party loyalists who believe the APC has strengthened its grip on power.

“It is only APC people that are celebrating him. When you see people saying, ‘Baba, baba,’ it is because these people are party members. They are celebrating Tinubu because they believe they have secured APC to continue ruling Nigeria,” he stated.

He maintained that no one has been able to convince him that the president has fulfilled his responsibilities as Nigeria’s leader.

“Let anybody prove to me what Tinubu has done as a president and a leader. People who have nothing to offer, people who have no sense of leadership, and we are celebrating them,” he said.

Odumeje also recalled Tinubu’s campaign promise on electricity, saying the president had assured Nigerians that stable power supply would be achieved within four years.

“Tinubu promised us that once he entered this government, give him four years and he would make sure Nigeria has 24-hour electricity. And if it doesn’t happen, let him not be voted in for a second tenure,” he said.

The cleric stressed that his remarks were not driven by politics, insisting that he does not belong to any political party.

“I don’t belong to any political party. I am not talking about party. I am talking about good governance and how leaders can develop the nation they were elected to serve,” he said.

He concluded by saying that any president who wants to be regarded as a capable leader must deliver on three basic areas: good roads, improved security, and uninterrupted electricity.
