The Organising Committee of the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival has confirmed that the annual cultural celebration will go ahead as planned, putting to rest speculations that it may be suspended following the de.ath of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona
The committee explained that the revered monarch had, before his passing, made it clear that the festival must continue even during any royal transition period.

This clarification was made during a press briefing held at the Awujale’s palace in Ijebu Ode, ahead of the 2026 edition of the globally celebrated event themed “Ojude Oba 2026: Celebrating the Legacy of Oba Sikiru Adetona.”
The briefing brought together members of the organising committee, sponsors, cultural stakeholders, and partners, many of whom also used the platform to showcase their products and services.
Speaking at the event, the festival coordinator, Professor Fassy Yusuf, said the clarification was necessary due to rumours in some quarters suggesting that the festival would be halted following the monarch’s death.
He stressed that the late Awujale was firm in his directive that Ojude Oba should remain an annual cultural celebration regardless of any interregnum or change in leadership within the royal institution.
