A commercial motorcyclist, identified as Kazeem, is accused of sexually assaulting a female passenger who had asked for his help finding a place to stay overnight.
Kazeem claimed that her behavior suggested she needed him for the night.
The Oyo State Police Command paraded Kazeem among other suspects.
Addressing journalists, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, speaking on behalf of Commissioner of Police Ayodele Sonubi, shared details of the incident.
On October 17, around 10:15 p.m., the woman, who had just arrived from Lagos, was picked up by Kazeem at Olorunsogo.
She intended to go to Adeshina, but the motorcyclist diverted to an unfamiliar route, telling her he needed to pick something up from his wife’s shop.
Instead, Kazeem took her to the Ogbere area, where his wife’s shop is located, and allegedly forced her inside.
According to Osifeso, “She was forced inside where he had carnal knowledge of her without her consent.”
During questioning, Kazeem admitted to a sexual encounter with the woman but insisted it was consensual.
However, a medical report showed bruises around the woman’s private area, and the police found items including female underwear, multi-colored boxer shorts, and a red pair of trousers as evidence.
Speaking to journalists, Kazeem described his version of events: “That night, I was on the expressway, waiting to pick passengers when the lady approached me and said that she just arrived in Ibadan from Lagos, but didn’t know the place she was going. I asked her for the area and she told me. I asked her to come along.”
He added, “As she sat on the bike, she told me that she was hungry. I gave her money to go and buy food. Thereafter, she told me to help her get a place where she could stay overnight because it was already late and she might not be able to recognize the place she was going easily. From there, I took her to my wife’s shop in Olorunsogo area and slept with her.”
Kazeem concluded, “When my wife came after I was arrested, she could not say anything. She was just crying.”
