"Ole Ole!"- FCT workers chant as they chase Wike's convoy

Tension erupted in parts of Abuja on Monday as a group of disgruntled workers reportedly chased the motorcade of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike during a protest over unpaid salaries and unresolved welfare issues

The workers, who had been on strike, became agitated as Wike’s convoy passed through their picket area. In a video obtained by Naija News, protesters could be seen chanting “ole” (thief) and moving toward the minister’s vehicles, demanding urgent attention to their grievances.

The demonstration was part of a larger protest by staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), who, supported by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), staged a picket at the National Industrial Court in Abuja. The action forms part of a total and indefinite strike over longstanding labour disputes.

The NLC had directed its members to support the strike, describing it as justified in response to what it called persistent violations of workers’ rights by FCTA management and political leadership.

Workers said their grievances include unpaid promotion arrears, poor working conditions, and lack of essential work tools. They claimed repeated engagements with FCTA authorities failed to produce results, leaving them with no choice but to continue the indefinite strike.

At the court, protesters carried placards demanding the removal of Minister Wike, reflecting growing frustration over unresolved welfare issues. The action disrupted parts of Abuja’s central district and underscored the mounting dissatisfaction among civil servants over working conditions and the government’s response.

Labour leaders stressed that the strike is a last resort after months of unsuccessful negotiations with FCTA authorities.
