Singer Tekno said he does not think entertainment always has to be intelligent or serious before people can enjoy it.
Reacting to the phrase “Olodo Uprising,” he pointed to the simple pleasure people get from watching someone being funny and deliberately goofy. For him, sometimes the joke is simply in the foolishness, and that is enough to keep people entertained.
Speaking in an interview, he said:
“Intellectual no dey work again. Wetin I go do with your intellect? I can watch Carter Efe for hours and just be laughing at him just being goofy because that’s interesting. Back in the day wey you dey watch Osuofia and Mr. Ibu, wetin make you been like them? No be the mumu wey dem dey mumu?”.
He used Carter Efe as an example of the kind of comedy he can sit down and watch for hours without needing anything deeper from it.
The same, he argued, applied to older comedy characters such as Osuofia and Mr. Ibu, whose exaggerated foolishness was a big part of what made them funny.
Tekno believes there is nothing strange about enjoying that kind of entertainment. Sometimes, people simply want something that will make them laugh.
