A tragic building collapse occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Otta-Ona Junction, opposite the Mobil Filling Station in Ikorodu, Lagos State, claiming one life and leaving nine others injured

The two-storey structure, which was still under construction, crumbled around 2:00 p.m., according to eyewitnesses.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), including the Response Team and Pre-Hospital Care Unit, were quickly mobilized to the scene.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed the incident. “A distress call was received at 2:02 p.m., prompting immediate activation of the State Emergency Response Plan. Teams from Agbowa and Alausa were dispatched and arrived at 2:40 p.m.,” he said.
He noted that three individuals were initially trapped under the debris, and while nine adult males were successfully rescued and treated on site, one body was later recovered from the rubble. The exact cause of the collapse is still under investigation.

LASEMA’s Tiger and Lion Response Teams led the rescue operation, cordoning off the area for safety. An excavator and other heavy-duty equipment were deployed to aid the efforts.
Other agencies on ground included the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Police, and the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA).
