First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, was on Sunday conferred with the prestigious chieftaincy title of ‘Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile-Oodua’ by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi
The monarch described her as a woman of substance, deeply rooted in the culture and traditions of the Yoruba kingdom.

The installation ceremony took place at Afewonro Park, Enuwa Square, within the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, during the grand finale of activities marking the 10th Coronation Anniversary of Ooni Ogunwusi. The royal father expressed profound appreciation to Senator Tinubu for her steadfast support over the years.
“She is the mother of the nation. Exactly 10 years ago, on the 7th of December 2015, she stood by me through thick and thin. Today is not a day for long speeches, but I must sincerely thank President Bola Tinubu for his support and thank all of you for standing by our mother. She is indeed a merciful mother,” Ooni Ogunwusi said.
The monarch noted that while a similar honour had been considered for President Tinubu five years ago, it was now conferred on the First Lady with the cooperation of traditional rulers across Yorubaland.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in her response, expressed deep gratitude to God and described the honour as both humbling and divine. She commended the Ooni for his visionary leadership, noting that his reign has brought global recognition and renewed pride to the Yoruba race. She also thanked the people of Ife for their support throughout the Ooni’s decade on the throne.

“The joy of the nation has come, and we are just beginning to celebrate. God has assured us that 2026 will be a year of joy, honour, and restoration, a year in which everyone will partake in renewed glory,” she said.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo who was also present, lauded the First Lady, urging her to continue her humanitarian work and acknowledging the Ooni’s wisdom in deeming her worthy of the title.
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke who also attended, praised Remi Tinubu as a pillar of national development and highlighted her contributions to impactful initiatives across Nigeria. He also commended the Ooni’s decade of transformative leadership, emphasizing his efforts in promoting Yoruba culture, fostering unity, and advancing socio-economic development.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, former First Lady Patience Jonathan, and the Soun of Ogbomosho, Ọba Ghandi Afọlábí, all of whom joined in celebrating the Ooni’s 10 years of impactful leadership.
