There has been widespread reaction online after reports emerged that Omega Power Ministries (OPM), led by Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, has suspended plans for the wedding of his 21-year-old autistic daughter, Chiemeka Chibuzor.
The situation began after the pastor publicly stated that he was searching for a “young able-bodied man” willing to marry her. Following that announcement, a large number of men reportedly responded, with hundreds expressing interest.
Some sent written messages, while others went as far as sharing video appeals, claiming they would love and care for her respectfully.
However, the development quickly sparked backlash across the internet. Critics argued that the move raised serious concerns about consent and the vulnerability of individuals involved. The controversy also drew comparisons to a recent incident involving the pastor’s autistic son, which had already triggered public debate.
As pressure mounted, the church announced a reversal of the planned wedding. In a Facebook update, OPM stated: “Chiemeka Chibuzor wedding is hereby suspended,” noting that they had received a large volume of responses, adding, “More than a thousand applications. No more wedding, Pending further directive from me HRM King, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere.”
