Notable Nigerian figures including Heirs Holdings chairman Tony Elumelu, business mogul Femi Otedola, Grammy-winning Tems, WTO Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen have been recognized as part of the 2025 edition of 100 Most Notable Peace Icons in Africa
The list, unveiled during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, honors a diverse group of influential Africans for their efforts in promoting peace, leadership, and development across the continent.
Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah, Grammy Award-winning artist Tems, Tanzanian HR World Limited CEO Angel Josephat Natianota, and Moroccan changemakers Abdelhak Najib and Imane Kendili also made the list.
Other honorees include Zimbabwe’s finance minister Mthuli Ncube and Munyakazi Sadate, CEO of Karame Rwanda Group.
Kingsley Amafibe, the project director for the initiative, said the individuals were selected for their commitment to humanitarian service, youth empowerment, and positive contributions to community growth.
“These icons have demonstrated resilience and an unwavering dedication to advancing peace, fostering new leadership, and spurring economic growth in Africa,” Amafibe stated.
According to him, the recognition is meant to highlight the lasting impact of individuals across various sectors—ranging from sports and finance to religion and the creative industries—who continue to shape Africa’s progress and unity.
Award recipients will be honored at the upcoming 100 Most Notable Africans Leadership and Business Summit, slated for July in Kigali, Rwanda.
The summit, themed “Leadership Frameworks for Governance, Business Growth, Investment Opportunities and Sustainable Development in Africa”, will bring together thought leaders, policymakers, investors, and entrepreneurs for a series of high-level dialogues aimed at unlocking the continent’s potential.
It will feature keynote speeches, networking opportunities, and discussions focused on improving cross-border collaboration, transparent governance, and sustainable economic policies.
