Osun traditional ruler, 4 others REMANDED over alleged arson

The Elegbedi of Egbedi in Osun State, Oba Muideen Azeez, along with four others, have been remanded in custody over charges of arson, illegal possession of firearms, and destruction of farmland

The Osun State High Court ordered their remand until they meet the conditions for bail.

The prosecuting counsel, Abiodun Badiora, from the state Ministry of Justice, stated that the charges against the defendants violate Sections 402, 403A, 443, 2(1), and 249(1) of the Osun State Criminal Law 2002.

A witness, Mustafa Waheed, testified that Azeez assaulted him when he arrived with police officers to arrest the monarch over alleged damage to his farm.

Following the hearing, the court granted bail to the defendants, setting it at N5 million with two sureties each.

The sureties must be civil servants of grade level 16 and own property within the court’s jurisdiction.

As the bail conditions were not immediately met, the defendants were seen being transported in a Nigerian Correctional Service vehicle at 2:10 pm on Thursday.
