Tensions remain high in Oyo State following the a.bduction of students and teachers from communities in Orire Local Government
At the centre of public conversation is the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin, who made it clear during proceedings that the government is not prepared to engage in negotiations with the armed group behind the a.ttack.
Despite this firm position, discussions within the Assembly hinted that the a.bductors may have communicated certain demands tied to the safe return of the victims, though officials have not disclosed details.
He said: The government would do anything necessary for them to bring the children and the teachers back and not negotiations. If it were to be left for you, would you negotiate if terr0rists ask for weapo.ns, money, and conception of future laws of the country would you have accepted”?
The incident, which took place on May 15 has intensified pressure on state authorities as families continue to wait anxiously for updates.
