The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), alongside security agencies, has arrested eight people for impersonating traffic officers and extorting motorists in Ibadan
OYRTMA Executive Chairman, Major Adesagba Adekoya (rtd), said the suspects had long deceived motorists and created disorder on the roads.
“We have recovered 95 vehicle number plates, ten 10-amp batteries, seventy-five 75-amp batteries, and counterfeit traffic tickets valued between 85,000 and 90,000 Naira during the operation,” he revealed.
Major Adekoya explained that the arrests are part of ongoing efforts to stop the activities of fake traffic officials. He added that the agency follows due process when issuing fines.
“The agency issues authorized identity cards to all staff to help the public distinguish genuine officers from impostors,” he said, urging motorists to always verify the identity of traffic officers before obeying instructions.
He assured that OYRTMA will keep working with security agencies to track down offenders and keep Oyo State roads safe.
Motorists were also encouraged to stay alert and report suspicious individuals claiming to be OYRTMA officials through the agency’s official channels.
