Long before Davido became one of Africa’s biggest music stars, P-Square had already shown him that African artistes could stand alongside the biggest names in the world. Their success gave him the confidence to dream beyond the continent.
He remembered being in school and telling his friends about the music duo, especially their connection with international stars.
During an interview with the BBC, Davido said:
“P-Square inspired me. I used to tell my friends in school about how they were two African artistes who had a song with Snoop Dogg and were friends with Kanye West,” he said.
Seeing P-Square move comfortably in that space made a lasting impression on Davido.
For him, that was enough to start dreaming bigger and believing that a career in music could take him far beyond Nigeria.
The comments come as the P-Square brothers, Peter and Paul Okoye, continue to deal with their long-running differences, which have kept the duo apart despite their earlier success together.
