Associate Senior Pastor of The Fountain of Life Church, Tolu Odukoya, has revealed that her marriage has ended, describing the separation as an experience beyond her control
Speaking in an interview with Truthtable, shared on her YouTube channel on Thursday, the 40-year-old pastor admitted that her marital breakdown deeply shaped her life.
“The first thing I’ll say is that I’m separated. Most people don’t know that, and it was circumstances beyond my control,” she said, likening the end of her marriage to bereavement. “You don’t enter a marriage with the intention of leaving it. When a marriage ends, it feels like a death.”
Odukoya also pointed out that separation does not necessarily mean either spouse is at fault. “My ex-husband is a great man, but if God hasn’t ordained a union and you try to force it, the chances of it lasting are very slim,” she explained.
She further reflected on her difficult journey between 2021 and 2023, when she lost her stepmother, her father’s twin sister, and her father, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, the late Senior Pastor of The Fountain of Life Church.
Despite her struggles, she accepted her pastoral calling, even when she felt unqualified. “I told God, ‘You see the baggage I’m dealing with, but if You’ve called me, then maybe You’ve placed something in me.’ I just kept my eyes on Jesus,” she said.
She credited her siblings and late father for their unwavering support during the separation. “My family stood by me. My dad fought for me. Their encouragement rebuilt my self-esteem and gave me strength,” she noted.
Offering advice to others, Odukoya urged people not to stay in troubled marriages just to protect their public image. “Don’t stay somewhere unhealthy because of what people will say. They’ll talk today and move on tomorrow,” she warned.
Following her father’s passing in August 2023 in the United States, her brother, Pastor Jimmy Odukoya, now leads The Fountain of Life Church alongside her.
