Peter Obi never gave me money – Archbishop Kawas defends Tinubu endorsement

0

Archbishop Kawas defended his endorsement of President Bola Tinubu, saying he supported Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential campaign without receiving money from him and often covered his own transportation costs.

He said this during an interview on Arise TV, recalling how he and other clergymen travelled across the country, attended Obi’s campaign events and prayed for him.

He said:

“Peter Obi never gave me one dollar or one naira.

I travelled with him all over the country to support him, and he never asked how we got to the campaign grounds.

“He would just see me at the campaign venue. We would pray for him, and we paid the transportation costs of six clergymen.

During that time, nobody called me fake. Now, because I have prayed and God has led me to believe that it is Tinubu, I have suddenly become a fake bishop?”

Kawas said his decision to support Tinubu came after what he described as prayer and personal conviction, insisting that his current position should not be judged differently simply because his political choice has changed.
