Photos: Project Alert Rescues Child In Lagos From Aunt Who Had Inflicted Several Injuries On Her In Just 4 Months

    9 year-old Onyiyechi Nkerem was yesterday
    rescued from the hands of her Aunt, Chioma Okereke with whom she lived for four months. A Lagos Based NGO, Project Alert stormed the resident of her
    Aunt where Onyiyechi was rescued after a good Samaritan alerted them about how she has been severally battered.
    According to the founder of the
    NGO, Mrs Josephine Effah-Chukwuma, the little girl was tortured and brutalized
    severally by her aunt on several occasions. Chioma inflicted wounds on the
    little girl’s head, back, eyes and legs. The case was brought to her attention
    by one Annie Chioma Chukwu on Sunday evening and by Tuesday, we were able to
    reunite Oyinyechi with her parents in Umunoha village in Mbaitoli Ikeduru LGA, Imo
    State.

    But for the intervention of
    Project Alert representatives in Owerri, the youths in the village would have
    mobbed Chioma, her husband and her mother in-law for maltreating the little
    girl.
    Pictures show little Onyiyechi;
    her head with wound scars; her back; her grandmother and father Bernard
    standing; and angry youths outside their home in Imo.
    NO CHILD SHOULD BE A MAID TO
    ANYONE Mrs Josephine concluded.
