Police operatives attached to the Ijebu-Igbo Division of the Ogun State Command have arrested one Ayomide Kamula in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 19-year old girl in Oke Sopen area, Ijebu-Igbo, in the Ijebu North Local Government Area
The suspect, Kamula, 20, was arrested on Tuesday, following a formal report lodged at the station by the victim’s mother.
Upon receipt of the report, the officers immediately swung into action, visiting and securing the scene of the crime to gather crucial evidential material.
Confirming the incident on Thursday, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, said investigating officers promptly escorted the victim to the General Hospital, supported by a formal Police Medical Form, for comprehensive medical examination and care.
Opeyemi noted that preliminary inquiries led to the arrest of the suspect and intelligence-led searches have been intensified to track down and apprehend the fleeing co-suspect, identified as Boye Balogun, who remains at large.
The Deputy PPRO stated that the case is currently being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
