A 50-year-old local barber known as Wanzam in Hausa, Abubakar Nuhu of Gwallagan Mayaka in Bauchi LGA has been arrested by the State Police Command for alleged child abuse and inhuman treatment of his 5-year-old son

The confirmation of the arrest was made by the Command PPRO, SP Ahmed Wakili as contained in a statement he released to Journalists in Bauchi.

According to him, “On 3rd July 2024, at about 1705hrs, information was received from the Ward Head of Gwallagan Mayaka area of Bauchi, that he got information from a good Samaritan, a resident of his ward.”
The informant revealed that his wife, Amina (not real name) informed him that she saw a 5-year-old boy of their neighbours, tied with a chain inside a room situated at the same address (Gwallagan Mayaka).

She immediately checked -up on the boy to confirm and found him lying, tied with the chain unconscious.

The PPRO added, “On receipt of the information, a team of Detectives led by CSP Mubarak S. Baba, DPOs, D’ Division (Dutsen Tanshi) moved to the scene and rescued the boy.”

He added that during interrogation, the victim Identified himself as Hussaini Abubakar, 5 years old, he revealed that he was treated inhumanely by his biological father, Abubakar Nuhu, AKA Wanzam of Gwallagan Mayaka.

 

He further stated that he was incarcerated and treated with inhumane treatment by his father for many days which he cannot specify and also spent Three days without eating.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command, Auwal Musa Muhammad immediately directed the DPO to apprehend the offender for investigation and prosecution for the established offence.

The suspect was arrested for the offence of Child Abuse, according to the defendant during interrogation, he claimed to have confined the minor “to restrict him from stealing their neighbour’s valuables” as he was advised to do so by a friend.

Furthermore, the CP directed the DPO to transfer the case to SCID and also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department to discreetly investigate the crux of the matter and other motives surrounding the dastardly act.

While appreciating the public for their cooperation and being vigilant to sanitize and fish out the bad eggs among the productive society, he highly acknowledged and encouraged the public to continue supporting the Police and any other law enforcement agent in the State.
