The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 55-year-old Shamsideen Oladiti, a well-known National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) leader on Lagos Island, popularly called Shameleon, over allegations of assault and m3rder

Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed that Oladiti is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba, where investigations into the cases are ongoing.

Reports indicate that on September 17, 2025, at about 3:00 p.m., Oladiti allegedly assaulted a dispatch rider on Lagos Island, striking him with a helmet and his fists. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he is now receiving treatment on oxygen support.

The police further disclosed that Oladiti had earlier been accused of attacking another man on August 28, 2025. In that incident, he allegedly used a metallic ring to hit the victim repeatedly on the head and face, causing severe injuries. Despite medical attention, the man succumbed to his injuries on September 17, 2025. His body has been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.

The news of the victim’s death triggered a protest at Oladiti’s office in Sandgrouse Market, Lagos Island, where mourners set two of his motorcycles on fire, causing tension in the area.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, led a team of mobile policemen, tactical squads, and conventional officers to restore calm. He assured residents that Oladiti would face prosecution once investigations are concluded and appealed to the public to remain peaceful.

SP Adebisi also clarified that the dispatch rider attacked on September 17 is still alive despite earlier rumors of his death. “We have confirmed from the family that he is still alive. He is not dead, although he is currently breathing with the aid of oxygen. The one who died passed on September 17. He was also beaten by Oladiti on August 28,” she explained.

  1. These Tinubu’s thugs oppress Keke Marwa drivers and Okada riders on a daily basis; even bus drivers. They resort to brutality if these transporters don’t have the kind of money they are demanding from them. I have witnessed these Tinubu’s task collector bragging that they would kill their victims of extortion, and that nothing will happen. This has been going on for too long, and only got worse since Tinubu their boss rigged the election and took power by force. They now believe they are untouchable. It’s a very sad situation 😞
