The Delta State Police Command has announced that “the ban on fireworks is still in force as part of measures to ensure a safe and peaceful yuletide in the state”
This was contained in a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in Warri on Thursday.
The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, Olufemi Abaniwonda, as insisting that “the command will be enforcing strictly, particularly the ban on the use, sale and display of pyrotechnics, including fireworks and firecrackers known as ‘knock-out’ and ‘banger’.
“This decision comes as part of ongoing efforts to prevent and reduce crime as experience shows that criminally minded persons can take advantage of this to unleash terror on law-abiding residents”, the statement partly reads.
