The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has extended the grace period for enforcing the tinted glass permit requirement for vehicles to October 2, 2025

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, explained that the extension follows a surge in applications through the official portal, indicating increased public compliance.
He stated, “The Inspector General of Police has approved a further extension of the grace period for enforcing the Tinted Glass Permit requirement for vehicles with tinted windows. The new enforcement date is now October 2, 2025.
“This decision comes after a significant rise in applications via the official portal, reflecting heightened public compliance. The Force finds it necessary to allow sufficient time for thorough scrutiny of applications to ensure permits are issued only to eligible individuals, in line with national security considerations.”
Adejobi added that the extension will also allow for further improvements in both digital and physical verification processes to maintain the permit system’s integrity and prevent abuse.
He urged the public to report any form of extortion, hidden fees, or unauthorized processing to the Police authorities through the dedicated hotline: 09169967000.
“The Nigeria Police Force appreciates the cooperation of Nigerians and remains committed to balancing public convenience with strong security measures for everyone’s safety,” Adejobi said.
This marks the second extension since the tinted glass permit enforcement was announced in late April. Initially, motorists were given a 30-day window from May 1 to apply or regularise their permits, with the enforcement deadline later extended to August 12.
Sunday PUNCH had reported that police silence as the August 12 deadline approached caused growing concerns among motorists.
