A police inspector serving with the Kano State Command has d!ed after an accidental gunshot while on duty in the Hotoro area of Kano
The incident, which occurred on Saturday around 5:40 a.m., was contained in a post shared on X by security analyst, Zangazola Makama on Sunday.
According to Makama, the officer, identified as Inspector Aminu Ibrahim of the Hotoro Division, was said to have entered a toilet within the premises of Basnaj Global Resources Limited when the accident happened.
Preliminary findings revealed that Ibrahim accidentally shot himself in the stomach while squatting, with his loaded AK-47 rifle hanging around his neck.
The rifle, marked GT 4177, was later recovered in a cocked position, with 29 rounds of ammunition counted instead of the 30 earlier issued to him.
The inspector was rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where a doctor on duty confirmed him dead. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy.
