A police officer attached to the Utheri Wa Lari police post in Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County, Kenya has shot dead his senior after being reprimanded for reporting to work late and intoxicated.
The officer opened fire on his boss, identified as Senior Sergeant Ayub Polo after he questioned him about his lateness and drunkenness. The errant officer reportedly fired five bullets, killing the senior cop on the spot.
“The suspect came to the camp drunk and got angry when he was questioned for his behaviour by his senior,” Nakuru Deputy Commissioner Kisilu Mutua told journalists.
Mutua told the media that the junior officer flee the station, while still armed with his loaded gun, after committing the heinous act.
He confirmed that they have since launched a manhunt for the fugitive cop.
The surge in incidences of police killings has umpteenth times been blamed on mental stress among the men in uniform.
During the GSU graduation this year, President Uhuru Kenyatta advised officers to seek counselling and other applicable ways that can help them combat mental stress.
