Nigeria Police operatives have taken over the Azbir Hotel and Azbir Arena, properties owned by former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN, in Kebbi State
The takeover comes amid an ongoing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into alleged money laundering and abuse of office involving Malami. The anti-graft agency had invited him for questioning on November 28.
Prior to the police action, Malami had expressed concerns over what he described as threatening operations by the EFCC, as its operatives conducted coordinated raids on his offices and private residences in Abuja and Kebbi State.
Meanwhile, Josef Onoh, a former South-East spokesperson to President Bola Tinubu, accused Malami of hypocrisy and flouting the rule of law during his tenure.
In a statement, Onoh urged Malami to desist from attempts to intimidate or blackmail EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede and to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigations.
