Portable says he earned millions despite defeat in celebrity boxing match

Nigerian singer Portable has spoken out following his recent defeat in a celebrity boxing match against Carter Efe, shifting attention from the result of the fight to what he describes as the financial success of his involvement in the event.

Just a day after stepping out of the ring on the losing side, Portable addressed critics and fans, making bold claims about his role in popularising celebrity boxing in Nigeria and the earnings attached to the bout.

In his statement, he expressed frustration over what he sees as a lack of appreciation from people within the entertainment industry, suggesting that his efforts were not properly acknowledged.

He said, “I brought celebrity boxing to Nigeria, and suddenly everybody in the industry turned against me?”

He went further to break down the financial details surrounding his participation in the fight.

According to him, he received a significant upfront payment before even stepping into the ring. He stated, “I collected ₦40 million before I even entered the ring, plus ₦1 million per post to promote the show I did five posts, so that’s ₦45 million in total.”

Portable also made claims about the betting activity generated by the fight, suggesting it attracted massive international attention. He added, “The betting company made $17 million just from people betting on me and Carter Efe. Most of that money came from people who bet on me.”

His comments have sparked reactions online, especially given the timing, coming shortly after his loss to Carter Efe in the highly publicised celebrity boxing match.

While the bout ended in defeat for the singer inside the ring, Portable’s remarks indicate he views the event from a business perspective, focusing more on earnings and exposure than the final scorecard.
