President Bola Tinubu will on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, inaugurate the National Disaster Relief Fund Committee at the Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja

The committee, chaired by Tony Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings, is tasked with developing a comprehensive national framework for disaster response and climate resilience. It will also serve as a central body for mobilizing and managing emergency response funds, working alongside existing government agencies.
Key members of the committee include Kwara State Governor and NGF Chairman AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Coordinating Minister of Health Ali Pate; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Abubakar Bagudu; Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo; Minister of Water Resources Joseph Utsev; Minister of Environment Balarabe Lawal; and NEMA Director-General Zubaida Umar.
This move follows a Federal Executive Council directive issued in September 2024 to strengthen Nigeria’s disaster preparedness and ensure better coordination in emergency situations. The fund is expected to attract support from both public and private sectors.
