The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, on Friday denied claims by the Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, that he attempted to extort N150 million from him

Adelabu had reportedly petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS), accusing Primate Ayodele of asking him to purchase about 1,000 trumpets, allegedly costing up to N150 million, and claiming that his refusal prompted a prophecy that he would not become governor of Oyo State.

n response, Primate Ayodele, through his media aide Osho Oluwatosin, clarified that he never asked Adelabu for money. He said the request for the trumpets was intended for the minister’s benefit and that Adelabu himself had inquired about the cost. Ayodele added that he only asked that someone from Adelabu’s side verify the prices at the market.

He explained that the minister’s personal assistant and another associate, along with Adelabu himself, exerted pressure due to his strong desire to secure the governorship ticket in Oyo State.

“I didn’t ask Bayo Adelabu to bring money for prayers. I only told him to ask someone from his end to go to the market to find out the price of the trumpets, while someone from my end follows to confirm. He, his personal assistant, and the person he sent put me under so much pressure because of his desperation for governorship,” Ayodele said.

Ayodele added that he had informed Adelabu that the party would not support him for the governorship ticket, but suggested that he could seek God’s mercy by buying the musical instruments—not for the church, but for spiritual purposes. Adelabu reportedly declined.

“I told him they wouldn’t give him the governorship ticket, but if he wanted it so badly, he should seek the mercy of God by buying the musical instruments for God, not even for my church. He said he can’t do it, and that was the end of it,” Ayodele said.

The cleric also stated that he had long spoken publicly about Adelabu’s ambition and consistently maintained that it would require divine intervention for him to become governor. He argued that his subsequent prophecies regarding the minister were unrelated to any alleged refusal to purchase the instruments.

“I have been saying for years that he won’t become governor of Oyo State; that is why he approached me. I had never spoken to him before he sent people to request my spiritual help. I do not make prophecies for money. My prophecies after our discussion are not because he refused to buy the musical instruments—it can never be,” Primate Ayodele said.
