Toxicology result ready for Mohbad who passed away on September 12, 2023, and was buried the following day
Following concerns surrounding his death, his body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy by the police.
In May 2024, the initial autopsy conducted by the Lagos State Government was deemed inconclusive due to the body’s decomposition. A subsequent toxicology report revealed the presence of Diphenhydramine, an antihistamine, in his system, though not at a lethal level. Dissatisfied with these findings, the singer’s family sought permission for an independent autopsy and toxicology analysis, which was granted by the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos.
According to reports, the private autopsy and toxicology tests, conducted in two parts, have been completed. A family source revealed to The PUNCH that the results have been available since December 2024. The forensic pathologist hired by the family is reportedly awaiting an opportunity to present the findings in court.
Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s father, has continued to call for justice, urging the police to probe the singer’s wife, Omowunmi, and to conduct a DNA test on their son, Liam. Meanwhile, a coalition known as The Critical Thinkers Group has advocated for the resumption of the coroner’s inquest into the circumstances of Mohbad’s death. The group emphasized that reopening the inquest would aid the fact-finding process and provide much-needed clarity.
The coalition also called on the court to summon key witnesses, including Naira Marley, Sammy Larry, Nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and the family’s forensic pathologist, to testify and advance the investigation.
